Yacht Seawolf X Is Rossinavi’s First Catamaran—With Solar Panels, Too - Megayacht News (2024)

Rossinavi has launched a long-anticipated representing a few significant firsts in its history. The yacht Seawolf X is its first catamaran, specifically a power catamaran. Secondly, and more importantly, she promises the ability to cross oceans nearly entirely on battery power.

The first project in the Sea Cat 40 series, Seawolf X is the embodiment of a concept design that Rossinavi revealed in 2021. The concept was more than a notion, though. The shipyard had already done extensive research into hybrid propulsion offering clients long-range cruising options in addition to emission-free anchoring. That research comes together under what Rossinavi calls BluE. Batteries and solar panels take care of all voyaging needs either fully or nearly fully, depending on the scenario. For example, aboard the yacht Seawolf X, battery power ensures full electric mode for single-day trips. For multi-day trips, meanwhile, the same system lets her cruise in full electric mode for 90 percent of the journeys. Lastly, Seawolf X can conduct 80 percent of a transatlantic crossing relying entirely on the batteries.

There are further advantages to the system. According to Rossinavi, when she’s hooked up to shore power, the batteries recharge in five hours. Two diesel gensets onboard can also recharge them, too. Traditional diesel engines, it’s important to note, can run on biofuel without needing adaptation. Additionally, when Seawolf X is docked, “Hibernation mode” takes over. This reduces battery draw to the minimum needed and sends the excess to the dock or to a power system for the owners’ property. Rossinavi says the yacht has enough capacity to run the electrical needs of an entire villa. Finally, Rossinavi developed an artificial-intelligence system to not only monitor the battery bank (and other operations), but also to keep it between 20 and 80 percent charge. This range, the shipyard says, suits greater battery life.

The same AI system interestingly can communicate with the crew. On a permission basis, it will recommend steps to take to lower electrical consumption, for instance. Since it will also learn guest patterns, it will predict power needs for various areas. Overall, the system will monitor the yacht’s operations and continuously adjust demands and what it communicates.

Both Fulvio De Simoni Yacht Design (for styling) and Meyer Davis (for interiors) embraced the more environmentally conscious approach, too. Fulvio De Simoni of the eponymous studio says taking on a catamaran for the first time was fascinating. “We set out to envision the boat of the future, unbound by convention yet grounded in feasibility,” he explains. The studio therefore kept the yacht’s profile low and sleek, much like a sports car, yet with proper surface areas for the solar panels. To complement the efficiency of the megayacht’s twin aluminum hulls, the studio developed a lightweight anchoring system. Simultaneously, that system enhances the aesthetics, with a sculpted appearance (below). Enhancing the onboard experience, meanwhile, is the broad bow area, with a hidden pool and a deployable movie screen.

Finally, the owners worked with the New York-headquartered studio Meyer Davis for interiors. The look and feel throughout the yacht Seawolf X is casual and easygoing. In fact, the studio likens it to understated island living, while still feeling like a fine resort. Although the studio doesn’t specify the woods or other items comprising the décor, it prioritized natural textiles and materials. Altogether, the selections pay homage to the sun, sea, sky, and sand, within a layout amplifying the openness of spaces and curves of the exterior styling. The effect is said to be particularly special in the beamy saloon, main-deck master, and the sundeck.

Federico Rossi, Rossinavi’s COO, says seeing Seawolf X launch “is now a source of satisfaction and pride,” considering all the research that went into her. “This yacht This yacht showcases remarkable technological innovations in both power management and propulsion technologies, marking the beginning of a new chapter in next-generation vessels,” he asserts.
