First, let's look at this image shown by @sunnytian in the 0.14 announcement post's replies.

What is the Rift?
The Rift, currently, is a sort of tornado-looking thingy on top of the hub mountain.
I believe this will act sort of like dungeon items in dungeons, but you can not use non-rift items in the rift.
This is because there is new rift-oriented stats, such as Rift Time and Rift Damage.

The Rift is also confirmed lore-wise to be a seperate dimension (thanks to @DaCarrotGod for pointing this out!)
“He had lived in this house his entire life. Soon after birth, the calamity made him an orphan, like many others. On that day, a magical breach got created at the top of the mountain, almost invisible to the eye.” - This line of lore is from a Dungeon Journal.
“Maybe I am wrong, but I choose to believe it. This titan next to us is known by many names, some call them the Calamity. “ - From an NPC, referring to the Dragontail's skeleton of a dragon.
“The dragon army attacked our dimension many centuries ago and sent the world into pieces” - From the same NPC, likely referring to the Calamity.
(iirc The SkyBlock world used to be unified, but the Calamity caused it to split up into multiple islands.)

New Stats
All of the stat names are based on the image, and all of the definitons are complete estimates.
The Rift seems to have it's own category of it's stats, being all of the following:

• Rift Time; I estimate this stat is about how long you can stay in the rift before being kicked out
• Rift Damage; Similar to the normal "damage" stat but only gained while in the rift
• Rift Intelligence; Similar to the normal "intelligence" stat, but only gained while in the rift
• Rift Transferrable (True or False Stat); I believe that you have a whole seperate inventory in this rift, which explains the seperate stats

There are also new stats not related to the rift

• Mana Refund; I have no clue what this does, probably related to an ability that gives mana instead of costing mana.
• Motes Sell Price; Sell Price of a certain item to an NPC named Motes

Major Items
First, there is the Engima Cloak. This item has a stat of "Rift Time".

Then, the various tiers of Rift Necklaces:
Tier 1 has +10 Rift Time
Tier 2 has +60 Rift Time and +2 Rift damage
Tier 3 has +180 Rift Time and +2 Rift Damage

There's also various tiers for this necklace outside of the rift.
Tier 1 gives 50 health and 5 strength.
Tier 2 gives 100 health and 8 strength.
Tier 3 gives 150 health, 10 strength, and 3 crit damage.

There's the Leech Belt, Silkrider Safety Belt, and Vermin Belt, all giving various levels of Rift Time, Intelligence, and Walk Speed.

The Bracelet of the Glyphs gives 90 Rift Time, and 25 intelligence, obtained from "Sorcerer Okron".

For the mages out there, there seems to be quite a few wands.
There's the Aspect of the Leech with 2 tiers, and a Gateway Wand with unknown stats.
I personally believe that the Gateway Wand will allow you to open the Rift, but that may just be me.
There's the Wand of Warding and the Wizard Wand, both are Epic and unknown stats.
The "Test Rift Wand" has 20 Rift Damage, and is Rare. Likely to be a test item, though I'd mention just incase.

There is the Sword and Helmet of Live Reloading. The Helmet gives 200 health, the sword gives 69 damage, and 600 ferocity.

There is also the Worm the Fish and the Zoop the Fish. Zoop the Fish is rift transferrable, while Worm the Fish is not.

There's another instance of a Leech sword, this time with 3 Rift Damage and 3 Mana Refund, of Rare rarity.
There's a Key to Infested House Soul.

Last but not least, is the mirroed bow, or woB. No stats, no rarity.
There are lots of other mirrored items, I'd advise you to check them out if your curious.

New Armor
There is the "reverse iron armor", which is normal iron armor names but in reverse. Each piece gives 30 rift time.

There's also a new Wyld Set, giving 15 Rift Time, which is less than the iron armor.

There's Inspired Armor, giving 50 Rift Time per piece. I believe this is crafted with the "Bottled Inspiration" item.

There's also Gunther's Sneakers, giving 30 Rift Time per piece.

New Effects
There seems to be Rift Jump/Speed/Stability/Strength elixirs. This may mean God Pots are disabled in the Rift, and you can only drink these elixirs, or the Rift will make new status effects.

Conclusion
It seems like the coming Rift Update will bring a whole new "dimension", seperate from the Skyblock World. You can only spend so much time until you're kicked out. But while you're there, you can get new items and elixirs to conquer this dimension, and fight new bosses.
Again, almost all of this is educated guessing.
