    What is a Frappe?

A frappeis a cold, foamed coffee drink made with espresso, milk, sugar, and ice. It’s vigorously shaken or blended until a frothy texture is achieved and then served cold. It makes for a perfect summer favorite coffee-house treat, and it’s a must-have coffee drink if you’re hanging out at the pool, beach, or even your backyard. Butforget about heading to a café or even Starbucks for your Frappe fix. I will show you how I make my own at home, which tastes amazing.

Why You’ll Love This Coffee Frappe Recipe

    • Easy. You’ll only need a few minutes and a handful of simple ingredients to make this recipe.
    • Great pick-me-up. Thanks to the espresso, it provides a quick energy boost when you need it!
    • Refreshing. There is nothing like sipping on a chilled, sweet coffee on a hot afternoon. I like to add a dollop of whipped cream on top and then serve it with a big straw.

    Ingredients For Frappe

    • Instant Espresso Coffee – You could also use strongly brewed coffee.
    • Milk – Any kind of milk will work so use your favorite.
    • Sugar – I usually use granulated white sugar, but you could also use light brown sugar to add some caramel notes.
    • Ice – Lots of ice!

How to Make a Coffee Frappe

    1. Make the espresso and let it chill. Prepare the espresso and then chill it until completely cooled down.
    2. Blend chilled espresso with other ingredients. Next step is tocombine the espresso, milk, sugar and ice in a blender. Begin to blend on low speed, slowly increasing the speed to high, and blend until smooth
    3. Serve. Pour into glasses and serve right away.

    Variation Ideas

    • Caramel Frappe. Replace the white sugar in the recipe with light brown sugar. Drizzle caramel sauce to the insides of the glass before pouring in the blended frappe, then drizzle more caramel on top.
    • Mocha Frappe. Add a drizzle of chocolate syrup to the inside of your glass before pouring in the blended coffee, then drizzle more chocolate on top.

This turned out exactly like the pictures posted and tasted lovely. I halved the sugar though as I don’t have a massive sweet tooth. I made one straight coffee and the other with an additional flat teaspoon of hot chocolate powder to make a mocha frappe. Again both were very good.

The original frappe coffee comes from Greece and is prepared using instant coffee (without whipped cream etc).
The one you are describing here is actually more like a freddo espresso.
      Cheers anyway!

That would be correct, it just has coffee, milk and sugar. I can however see how whipped cream would be a nice addition.

I make this frappe recipe with a sweetener instead of sugar to keep the carbs low. Sometimes I add a touch of heavy whipping cream. YUM! HEAVEN!!

This seems like such a silly question. Could you tell me where to find instant espresso coffee, or maybe just a brand name? I’ve looked at my local grocery stores, Walmart and Target and haven’t been able to find it! Am I just looking for the wrong thing? I really want to try this recipe! Thank you!

thank you for engineering a relatively low calorie coffee drink, at least compared with those sugar bombs at any coffee shop, even the independent ones, enjoy your vacation!

Yummy looking drink. I wish my blender was powerful enough to crush the ice rather than just whirl it around until it all melts. 🙂

That’s true…standard blenders aren’t as powerful. :-/ There’s a high speed blender by Ninja and those run about 50 bucks on Amazon. If you are into smoothies and such, it’s definitely worth getting one.
